Well, the squirrel is outta the bag. Design Ranch narrowly escaped a fire in December when a chewed power line dropped mid-day and electrified our building. We are all happy to have made it out in one piece—although we can’t say the same for our furry friend. While the office undergoes some de-charring to return it to its original sparkly self, we have settled in (temporarily) with our friends at Helix Architecture. After some PTSD counseling (read: cocktails) we are back up and designing. So, in an ironic twist, if you need us in the next few months, we will be fireside at Helix. Stop by for a happy hour therapy session—we’d love to tell you the whole story. Write or visit Design Ranch @ Helix: 1629 Walnut Street, Kansas City, Missouri.
We want to be the first to share our work that has been published in a new international book. Gestalten just released First Things First! — showcasing outstanding branding and design for new businesses from around the globe. The publishers put Finefolk on a whirlwind tour, featuring our naming and design work for the fashionable studio. We are proud to join this list of international firms making a difference in the world through design.
Graphis is an international mainstay in the design industry—committed to presenting and promoting the work of exceptional talent in Graphic Design, Advertising, Photography and Art/Illustration. We are honored to be included not once, but twice, in its most recent archive of the best in Annual design from 2014-2016. Our work for Hall Family Foundation won a gold status award—focusing on the educational organizations that are bettering the lives of children in Kansas City. We used captivating portrait and still life photography, paired with simple smart design to carry the “back to basics” school theme throughout the report. Design Ranch also won a silver award for our work with KCMO CDE and our out-of-the-box approach to annual report charting. We’re honored to share this stage with such talented people and look forward to sharing our work worldwide.
Paper. We all use it. But did you know you could be awarded for designing on top of it? Appleton Coated deemed Design Ranch worthy of winning at the 2016 U360 Design Competition—an award show for those who are blazing new trails, crossing more chasms and setting sights high. Our work for Black & Veatch Centennial will be part of a traveling show appearing across the country. Catch it in a city near you, or see it here on our website! There’s only room for a few at the peak.
After reading this post, you’ll see design in a whole new light. Design Ranch was charged with designing the save the date and invitation for the Spencer Museum of Art’s grand re-opening gala, deemed Lux Naturalis. Inspired by the beautiful renovations completed at the museum, we designed the invite around interesting type, and then let unique processes and detail do the talking. A clear holographic foil forced readers to experience the invitation from a new perspective, as the visitors to the renovated museum will soon be doing. Don’t worry! If you didn’t get the invite, you can see our design below, and visit the museum for the full effect when it reopens on October 15th!
Communication Arts is one of the most highly regarded publications and sources in the design and advertising industry. We are honored to be included in this year’s smorgasbord of design deliciousness. It’s always a treat to be featured amongst the most renowned agencies in the country, and to see what inspiring work is being created across the globe. Check out our work in CA here.
Cue the design! For the third year in a row, Design Ranch has helped set the stage by designing posters for the Unicorn’s seasonal play lineup. 2016-17 will be filled with possessed puppets, profiling and panty dropping. Check out the full schedule and get your tickets at unicorntheatre.org
AltCap is providing alternative capital for community impact. The organization (formerly the KCMO CDE) is a community development financial institution with a mission-based approach to serving Kansas City’s economically distressed communities through alternative financing. Innovative financial products allow them to serve as a catalyst for investment in underserved areas. The alternative financier needed an alternative look to kickoff the new brand with its inaugural annual report. What better way to make an impact in the urban core than with an pitch-like tabloid and striking photography?! The die cut logo gives a peek into the good work of the organization.
While Woodside Village was building its new retail and multifamily town center, we were designing the brand from the ground up! Living alongside Woodside Health and Tennis Club, Woodside Village’s luxury apartments are set in an easily accessible, pedestrian friendly town center. Design Ranch helped bring the brand to life through a comprehensive marketing program. Thanks to our unique concept and the developer’s vision, the luxury living space was 30% leased before a model unit was complete! With a highly robust, custom website and unique marketing materials, the leasing group had more than enough swag to show future tenants the great things to come.
As a market leader in innovative food ingredients and biochemical, Corbion is working to make the foods you eat cleaner, simpler, fresher and safer. We know just how to make it eye-catching, make it memorable, make it impactful…. Make it with Corbion!
