Kansas City Convention Center

The Kansas City Convention Center, also known as Bartle Hall, needed a wayfinding system that could better serve its nearly 800,000-square-foot footprint while respecting the character of an iconic Kansas City building. Design Ranch was tasked with improving navigation, addressing ADA requirements, and creating a more modern, timeless signage system, all while working within the realities of the existing infrastructure and budget.

Design Ranch began by mapping and documenting the entire convention center, identifying opportunities to improve directional clarity, consistency, and accessibility throughout the building. Rather than replacing the existing signage infrastructure, we found ways to reuse many of the existing sign structures, creating significant cost savings. A new, cohesive design system was then developed and applied across sign types, making the convention center easier to navigate while giving the signage a more contemporary and lasting presence.
